Modern Woman, 2024
Description: In this metal sculpture made from nickel, brass, copper, and found objects, I took inspiration from a variety of paintings from the 1800s. These paintings include Nana (Manet, 1877), The Plum (Manet, 1878), and Portrait of Lady Meux (Whistler, 1881). Each of these paintings have a subject of a woman, progressive for her time. This progression ranges from a woman, being of high-class, smoking and drinking in the middle of the day while also daydreaming, to a woman wearing avant-garde clothing, jewels, and makeup.
